[:en]Almost everyday we hear people say the word ‘responsibility’, and demanded us for it; whether it is at school, workplace or home. If we take a look at the word ‘responsibility’ in the dictionary, the definition they will provide us is “the state or fact of being responsible, answerable, or accountable for something within one's power, control, or management”. There are a lot of examples, in what someone could be responsible for. However, being responsible for actions is one of the most significant of all.
It is a fact that we tend to find decision-making very hard. Finally doing the things we thought of, and saying our decisions out loud is the easy part. What’s hard is accepting the responsibility that comes with it, especially knowing that making mistakes is inevitable. When this happens, whether it is deliberate or unintentional, accepting that you do have a problem in this area and learning ways of taking responsibility for your actions is always the right thing to do.
The acceptance of personal responsibility is what separates the adult from the child. It’s the great leap forward into maturity. Always remember that accepting responsibility will also reflect on your character as a person. Edwin Louis Cole once said, “Maturity comes not with age but with the acceptance of responsibility.” In conclusion, even though owning up to your own mistakes can be embarrassing and painful, never take the easy road and skirt the responsibility of doing so.
