So , here we are again. Four years since the London Olympics , Rio now has its turn to host the summer Olympics. After a long and troubled build-up to the games coinciding with an economic downturn in Brazil , the games have finally started and we can enjoy following the different events and forget about the difficulties and complaints leading up to these Olympics.
Indonesia has gotten off to a good start with weightlifter Sri Wahyuni clinching the silver medal in the 48kg category. Not only will she be able to show off her medal when she returns , but she has also been promised a reward of more than $US 150,000 ! A second silver medal has since been won by Eko Yuli Irawan in the men’s 62kg weightlifting category. I hope he collects the reward also.
This is the 15th appearance for Indonesia at the Olympics with a team of 28 athletes competing in seven events for Rio 2016. These events are archery , athletics , badminton , BMX , rowing , swimming and weightlifting.
