Women Emancipation

Women’s life now is very different from women’s life in the ancient times. In the ancient times, boys and girls had different rights. Only boys from the rich family were able to go to school. Girls were not able to go to school and receive education, like most boys, they stayed at home learning many things from their parents. They learnt how to cook, how to wash dishes, how to wash clothes, how to sew, and how to clean the room. Some of them had to take care of their little sister or little brother. Girls will be married by someone when they are around twelve years old. That’s why all parents thought that girls didn’t need to go to school, they thought that the most important thing for girls were not education but how to be a good mother for their children. We might think that it’s not fair, but that was the tradition long time ago. In the past, people’s mind was not as far as people’s mind nowadays. But, R.A Kartini, she had a different mindset, she wanted to make women in Indonesia have the same opportunity as men. Because of R.A. Kartini, many things have changed.

Nowadays, women and men have the same rights, we can see that very clearly. Women have gained equality in education, profession, health facilities, and also political rights. All women can go to school and receive education from the teacher. Besides, they also learn how to be a discipline, creative, innovative, and a good manner student. But, there are some children that can’t go to school because their parent income is still very low, so the government provides a school with free school fee. After graduated from elementary school, junior high school, and senior high school, they can continue to go to the University. Not only boys that have the right to go to the University, but girls also have the right to go to the University. Nowadays, in Indonesia, many people graduated from University, no wonder if they get good professions. Girls can hunt for the job that they want or interested on, they can reach their dream, and they rarely just stay at home, and do the housework. This day, we don’t differentiate gender, not only men can be a Doctor, girls also can. They can get any profession that they want, like to be a designer, an athlete, a baker, a teacher, an actor, an artist, and many more professions. They also have the right to participate in politic, they can be a part of People’s Consultative Council, to be a prime minister, or even to be a President. One of Indonesia’s Presidents, the fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri is a woman. It gives us prove that girls can also be a leader and involve in politics. But, beside their career or profession, women have to remember that they are still a wife or a mother, they have to take care of their family too. Sometimes, too busy in their business make them forget about their family.

Long time ago, the health facilities in the village are not adequate, it’s very hard to find a hospital there. But, the health facilities are now adequate, either in the city or in the village. Awareness about how important mother’s and baby’s health have improved. Now, women get more attention about their nutrition condition. So, their nutrition condition have increased, their health become more stable, protected from all type of disease, so the number of mortality has decreased.

Girls, we are very lucky we born at this era, we have the same rights just like boys, no one cares about our gender, not like women in the ancient times, who only stay at their house doing the housework. So, we have to be thankful to R.A Kartini, because without her presence, I don’t think that we can do the same things like we used to do now, like going to school. So, we have to enjoy our day at school, we are very lucky, we can receive education and we can reach our dream. If you feel bored because of school, remind yourself about how hard women’s life in the past, being differentiate with men.
