I think reading is very important especially for me as a teenagers because it will improves my knowledge. For me, reading books is definitely one of my favourite things to do. Because it makes me feel like I’m living in those stories. But I didn’t use to like reading books because I thought it was just a waste of time. Like why would you read something that’s so complicated when your life is already complicated? But then, One day, I decided to try something that I never thought I would, I tried to read a novels or more like a series because I was trying to improve my reading skill, it’s called the mortal instruments. This book is written by Cassandra Clare and there are 6 of them. It instantly becomes my favourite series of all time. I only spent 3 days when I read the first book which is City of Bones and I kind of amazed with myself. I just feel like the story is so different than other novels. Although some people might find this series strange because it’s sort of a supernatural book kind of thing, like it has shadow-hunter which is half human and half angels, it has werewolf, vampire, warlock, and faeries and for some people, it’s just not making any sense. But for me it is. This book is so adventurous. The story is about this girl named Clary. When she had her birthday, not only her age that changed, but also her life. She become someone that she never thought even exist. She discovered something about her that she never knew. This story has a “complicated” love story which is so mind-blowing. It’s not like a “love triangle”, but it’s like a “love pentagon” if that makes sense. But even though it’s a little complicated, it also taught me that love is important, not only for our partners, but also our family, our siblings and our friends. It taught me that no matter how much you hate your family or your siblings, in the end of the day you’ll still love them and you will always risk anything in order to keep them safe. The other thing that I like about this series is that you can never predict what’s going to come. It also has a really long story each chapter, so it takes some times to read the whole book, which is good.
After I finished the first book, reading novels soon becomes one of my hobbies. I realise that reading novels (especially English novel) really helps me improve my English skill, because I can find a new vocabulary, like I’ll find some words that I haven’t known and I’ll search what are the meaning of those words. Reading novels also helps me to learn a little bit more about the grammar which is very helpful to improve my writing skill as well. And personally, I think that’s one of the benefit of reading. It’ll improve your literacy. I think it is important to improve my literacy skill because research shows that people with good literacy skill are more likely to have better job than those with poor literacy skill. So I kind of feel blessed that I started to read at the first place.
