Nicholas Samuel – Grade XII Social Class
Every country has its history. For many years, our people were suffering from the imperialism and colonialism. But, once in a while, certain kind of people came and changed the lives of many. They were heroes.
Nowadays, the world is at its (perhaps) peace. There's no sound of gun firing, people are walking in the outside safely, the kids are playing happily and the mothers are enjoying their shopping. All of these can't be possible without the struggles that our heroes made. We should be grateful for what they did even if it’s at the cost of their lives.
To me, heroes are people admired for their achievements and noble qualities. It does not have to be a soldier or someone who fights physically. They could be someone who makes changes for their country or even the whole world.
As someone who was born in a working-class family, I have witnessed how my parents have been working so hard for the family. My dad, every now and then, tells me how he struggled from his experience fired from jobs, being almost homeless and starting all over again and again to get where he is now. Despite the fact that my mom is a housewife, she is another real-life hero I think I need to mention. No one cares about everybody in the family like her. She is a really sweet and loving person that can change negative vibes in and around the house to positive ones. They have flaws and make mistakes, but that’s what makes them who they are. Looking at how they want to be better persons is really something that inspires me. To many people, their heroes might be pop stars, fictional characters or other famous people. But to me, my parents are my heroes!
I want to be a hero, as determined as my dad, and as loving as my mom. Of course you can be a hero. Look at your surroundings and start making changes around you that matter.
