Common Name: Octopus
Scientific Name: Octopus vulgaris
Octopuses are sea animals famous for their round bodies, big eyes, and eight long arms. They live in all the world’s oceans, especially in warm, tropical waters.
Most octopuses stay near the ocean floor, but some live closer to the surface. They love to eat crabs, shrimps, lobster—and some even catch sharks! Octopuses sneak up on their prey from above, then use the suckers on their arms to pull food into their mouths.
Octopuses can also change color fast, hiding from predators by blending into rocks and sand. And if they get scared, they squirt a cloud of ink to escape .
