The purpose of this report is to discuss which English language curriculum is more useful for SHB Modernhill grade 12 students – CAE or IELTS. This report briefly describes both curricula, highlighting their advantages.
CAE and IELTS
CAE and IELTS represent two different approaches to English language learning. Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), an English qualification examination, focuses on strengthening English language to an advanced level. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS), a globally recognised English assessment, focuses on an individual’s ability to communicate effectively in both academic and common surroundings.
Advantages of CAE and IELTS
CAE and IELTS are different in terms of exam content, however, both assess the same skills such as, listening, reading, writing, and speaking in English. They are both high-level English language exams. The CAE curriculum provides more complex English materials. This would be ideal for academics and professionals requiring high-level English proficiency. In contrast, IELTS highlights the ability of using the English language effectively in daily situations. Moreover, it became the preferred choice for students seeking to study in English-speaking countries because it equips students with language skills applicable in both academic and daily life. It is also more globally recognized, therefore most universities accept IELTS certificates.
Conclusion
Considering that grade 12 students will continue their studies to university, I believe that IELTS stands out more as a suitable English class curriculum for students. This is because IELTS provides students with a more targeted assessment of skills necessary for future education.
