On Sunday 12th of November, I joined an EF Spelling Bee Contest. The contest was being held at SMP Pangudi Luhur. For this year EF Cinere and EF Pondok Indah held the event together, so the participants were more than other years. There was 3 groups the first group was “Group A” the second was “Group B” the last one was “Group C”. Group A consisted grade 1 until grade 3 students, Group B consisted grade 4 until grade 6 students, Group C consisted grade 7 until grade 9 students. In the contest, there was 3 rounds the first round is “The Preliminary Round”, the second is “Semifinal Round” the last one is “The Finale Round”.

There were students from Sekolah Cita Persada, Kharisma Bangsa, Don Bosco, BM 400, Dian Didaktika, etc. Most of them were students from EF, while me I have never been a student at EF. The weird thing is that Group A and Group C got to start first, so my group (Group B) had to wait for over an hour. Furthermore, Group B had to listen to 2 presentations. Which was for me very boring, after those 2 presentations were done Group A and Group C were also done. We went into the rooms which I got room 5 or 4, there were at least 6 rooms for Group B, and each room had more than 40 students.

Finally, the contest started Mr.Kris gave us the paper for the spelling bee and told us the letters. I wrote it down on the paper during the Preliminary round, while the paper was being checked we were allowed to play with our phones. After like 10 minutes they told me I passed to the semifinals and I got nothing wrong! I was happy. We had to move to room 4 for the semifinals, and I passed to the finals. We got around 10 minutes to practice then the finals began, when I was up I was like “Let me refresh my mind please” then apparently I got a tie with my friend. The word that she got for the tiebreaker was ‘Height’ but she spelled it wrong because she spelled height ‘hiegt’. But, I got ‘pedicure’ at first I was like “does it have an H? maybe no” so I spelled it without an H and I won 1st place for the first time in my LIFE!!!! The prize was : Trophy, money prize, beach towel, bottle, bag, and stationary set.

11月12号星期五，我参加了在SMP Pangudi Luhur 举办的EF 拼字比赛。由于今年 EF Cinere 和 EF Pondok Indah一起举办了这个活动，因此参加人数比往年都有多。比赛分成三个队伍：第一队是“A队”，第二队是“B 队”，第三队是 “C 队”。 A 队由一年级到三年级， B队由四年级到六年级学生组成，C 队由七年级到九年级学生组成。这个比赛分成三轮： 第一轮是 “预赛”， 第二轮是 “半决赛”，第三轮是“决赛”。
这些学生来自 Citra Persada 学校，Kharisma Bangsa 学校， Don Bosco, BM 400, Dian Didaktika………, 大部分学生是EF 学生，然而我从来不是一名EF 的学生。奇怪的是A队和C 队首先开始，所以我所在的B 队必须等待一个多小时。另外B2 必须听两个演讲，这对于我来说非常无聊。当这两个演讲结束以后，A队和C队的比赛也结束了。轮到我们B队的时候，我们进入房间，B队至少有六个房间，每个房间的学生都超过40个，在这些房间里我的房间是五号而不是四号。
最后，这个比赛开始了，第一轮预赛Kris先生给了我们拼字比赛的试卷并告诉我们字母，我把它们写在的时候，我们允许使用自己的手机。十分钟以后，他们告诉我通过了预赛并且没有一个错误！我很开兴。然后我们必须去四号房间参加半决赛，我通过了半决赛进入决赛。经过十分钟的练习以后决赛开始了。当我起床的时候我就像 “请让我提神吧！” 然后很明显我跟我的朋友打了一平手。决胜题时她得到的词语是“Height”, 但是她拼错了，因为她将 “height” 拼成了“hiegh”。但是，当我首先得到 “Predicure” 时，我想 “有H嘛？或许没有，因此我拼成了没有H的，就这样我得到了第一名。

Pada hari Minggu tanggal 12 November 2017, saya mengikuti kontes EF Spelling Bee. Kontes diadakan di SMP Pangudi Luhur. Untuk tahun ini EF Cinere dan EF Pondok Indah menggelar acara bersama, sehingga peserta lebih dari tahun-tahun lainnya. Ada 3 kelompok pertama yaitu “Grup A” yang kedua adalah “Grup B” yang terakhir adalah “Grup C”. Kelompok A terdiri dari siswa kelas 1 sampai kelas 3, Kelompok B terdiri dari siswa kelas 4 sampai kelas 6, Kelompok C terdiri dari siswa kelas 7 sampai kelas 9. Dalam kontes tersebut, ada 3 ronde putaran pertama yaitu “The Preliminary Round”, yang kedua adalah “Semifinal Round” yang terakhir adalah “The Finale Round”.

Para peserta berasal dari berbagai sekolah di Jakarta, Depok dan Tangerang seperti Sekolah Cita Persada, Kharisma Bangsa, Don Bosco, BM 400, Dian Didaktika, dan lain-lain. Sebagian besar adalah siswa EF, sementara saya tidak pernah menjadi siswa di EF. Hal yang aneh adalah bahwa Grup A dan Grup C harus memulai lebih dulu, jadi kelompok saya (Grup B) harus menunggu lebih dari satu jam. Selanjutnya, Grup B harus mendengarkan 2 presentasi. Yang bagi saya sangat membosankan, setelah 2 presentasi tersebut dilakukan Grup A dan Grup C juga dilakukan. Kami pergi ke ruangan untuk Grup B, ada sekitar 4 atau 5, setidaknya ada 6 ruangan untuk Grup B, dan setiap ruang memiliki lebih dari 40 siswa.

Akhirnya, kontes dimulai Mr.Kris memberi kami kertas untuk mengeja kata “bee“ dan memberi tahu tentang aturan-aturannya. Saya menuliskannya di atas kertas selama babak pendahuluan, sementara kertas itu diperiksa, kami diizinkan bermain dengan telepon kami. Setelah seperti 10 menit mereka mengatakan kepada saya bahwa saya lolos ke semifinal. Aku merasa sangat senang. Kami harus pindah ke ruang 4 untuk semifinal, dan saya lolos ke final. Kami mendapat waktu sekitar 10 menit untuk berlatih, kemudian babak final dimulai, setelah saya selesai berlatih, saya meminta ijin untuk menyegarkan diri sebentar. Setelah itu saya merasa siap kembali untuk mengikuti babak final. Lawan saya mendapatkan kata ‘Height' tapi dia salah mengucapkannya karena dia mengeja ‘Hiegt'. Kemudian saya mendapat kata “pedicure” pada awalnya saya berpikir “apakah kata tersebut memakai huruf “H”? mungkin tidak “jadi saya mengeja tanpa huruf “H” dan saya memenangkan hadiah pertama untuk pertama kalinya dalam hidupku !! Hadiah yang saya dapat adalah: Trofi, uang, handuk pantai, botol minum, tas, dan alat tulis.
