Social Media isn’t anything new to most of us. Almost everyone who owns a smartphone uses social media. It has become a way for people to share their thoughts, their everyday lives, news, and pretty much everything else with the world. Social Media is great, we can communicate with people, share entertaining things, and maybe keep up with all the updated news all around the world. Let’s say if some of your family members live far away, then social media can help reduce that distance so you can still be in touch with them. Another thing is that we can meet new people, make new friends, and even use social media to promote products as a part of our business.
As great as it gets, nowadays, social media has also become something we have to be careful of. People are slowly becoming addicted to social media, especially teenagers. This can lead to them damaging their real-life relationships with family and friends. Social media addicts are mostly antisocial in real life. They have more friends on the internet than they do in real life. They pay more attention to their online lives, which is clearly wrong and something that needs to be avoided. A lot of people think of social media as a place to share every single thing they want, including things that are not true, and as a place they can act immaturely. We have to think carefully about what we share online. The fact is, things shared on the internet can spread around the world easily and very quickly as almost everyone has access to social media. Many of these things may be wrong or untrue, and can cause a lot of problems. Crimes such as hacking and cyber bullying can also be carried out through social media. Things like those will just make our online lives and our real lives worse.
As part of a younger generation, we should try to make social media more of a positive thing. Right now, it is something known more for the negative effects. We should use social media only as much as we need to, and stop doing things that we aren’t supposed to do. We should also try to make more use of the positive things online. That way, social media will not be a problem anymore.
