This month kindergarten study about types of communication, including phone numbers.
Here are some tricks for learning phone numbers are a fun way to make sure kids are ready just in case they need it.
Phone Number Hopscotch
Create a modified hopscotch layout with all ten digits — 0 through 9. Jump from digit to digit as you say the phone number.
Phone Number Song
Sing your phone number to the tune of one of their favorite songs — for example the theme for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. In place of “M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E,” we sing the phone number. For the one extra syllable you can say “Mom”, “2-0-0-8-6-3-1-2-3-4-Mom.”
This activity really gets the phone number to stick in your head.
Other good songs to use for learning phone numbers are “Camptown Races”, “Jingle Bells”, “She’ll Be Comin’ Round The Mountain”, and “Oh My Darling Clementine”.
Dialing Phone Numbers
Practice actually dialing it. Let them play with one of old phones and have them “call” several times. It’s lots of fun and really reinforces memorization of the number.
