Musical Drama In the Year of the Mouse

On the 4th February 2020, Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill celebrated Chinese New Year 2020. Parents, teachers and students all attended this event.

All students from kindergarten B through to high school attended the program. The teacher representative led a prayer, praying that the event would run well. After that, three primary students led the student pledge in three languages (English, Indonesian and Mandarin) in which all students participated. There was also a speech by the principal.

This year, the Chinese New Year activity was in the form of a musical drama. The story Illustrated about the realities of life. It was about parents that were too busy and their children wished that they could be with their parents during Chinese New Year. This performance displayed the acting skills of students, Mandarin teachers, Math teachers, ICT teachers and class teachers too. Interestingly, the Math teacher who was unable to speak Mandarin had to study hard for this role. Students were thus motivated to speak Mandarin, “If there is a will, there is a way.”

After the drama, students gave fantastic performances such as the Barongsai, a fan dance etc. At the end of the performances all students received lucky red envelopes and ate together.

We are so happy to participate in Chinese New Year this year.
