The Spirit of Independence: Building an Intelligent and Character-Driven Generation

Modernland, August 18, 2026 — To commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Sekolah Harapan Bangsa held a flag-raising ceremony on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the SHB 1 Football Field.

The ceremony was attended by members of the entire school community, including Grade 4–6 elementary students, all junior and senior high school students, teachers and staff, representatives of the Foundation, office boys (OBs), and security personnel. All participants took part in the ceremony in an orderly and enthusiastic manner as a way of honoring the struggles of the national heroes and expressing gratitude for Indonesia's independence.

The main ceremony officers were junior and senior high school students, who carried out their responsibilities with dedication, discipline, and confidence. Meanwhile, the choir performance was presented by Grade 5C elementary students, adding a solemn and patriotic atmosphere to the ceremony.

The Head of the Elementary School served as the Ceremony Leader. In her address, she reminded the students that the independence enjoyed today was not achieved easily. It was the result of the struggle, hard work, courage, and sacrifices of the nation's heroes.

As the next generation, students have a responsibility to continue this struggle through simple actions that can be practiced every day. They were encouraged to study diligently, maintain unity, respect differences, develop good character, take responsibility, and continuously strive for achievement and excellence.

Students in elementary, junior high, and senior high school are the generation that will shape Indonesia's future. Therefore, from an early age, they need to prepare themselves to become a generation that is not only academically capable but also strong in character, disciplined, caring toward others, able to work together, and proud of their country.

The spirit of independence also reminds us that every student has the opportunity to contribute to the nation. Today's struggle is no longer fought with weapons, but through education, knowledge, creativity, achievement, integrity, and acts of kindness.

Through this commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence, the entire Sekolah Harapan Bangsa community is encouraged to continue nurturing the spirit of “Learning Freely, Creating, and Achieving.” Let us fill our independence with meaningful work and kindness, preserve unity in diversity, and become a generation ready to lead Indonesia toward a brighter and more advanced future.
