Religious Moderation Builds Harmony

The Virtual Vesak Celebration 2566 Buddhist Era / 2022 of Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill Junior and Senior High School was held on Friday, 27 May 2022. Vesak Celebration is an activity held to commemorate three events: the birth of Prince Siddharta, the ascetic Gotama becoming Buddha and Buddha Parinibbana. This activity was attended by all students, staff and teachers of Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill Junior and Senior High School. This is also the time to respect each other’s differences.

Vesak Celebration was filled with various activities including Prayer of Vesak and watching videos about three Vesak events (for Buddhist students only). The other activities are reading Dhammapada and its meaning, the speech from principal, and one family (Sign Language Performance). The committee also held activities that were jointly attended by Bhikkhu Atthadhiro Thera’s meaning of Vesak, listening to explanations about Ehipassiko Foundation program and also doing charity for Lintas Agama program.

Ms. Sisilia Juni Arianti, as the principal of the school, gave a speech and wished a happy Vesak to all Buddhist teachers, staff and students. She also reminded teachers and students to respect differences as an effort to build harmony.

Bhikkhu Atthadhiro Thera gave a speech related to the theme which is respecting differences as an effort to build harmony. He also explained about the meaning of Vesak Celebration and how to live a happy life and remind to practice tolerance in daily life.

The next activity was listening to explanation about the Ehipassiko Foundation which was covered by Mr. Andre Pratama regarding the donation program for the Ehipassiko Foundation. It is followed by a symbolic donation by Ms. Sisilia Juni Arianti. All teachers teach students to be able to live meaningful by helping others, especially for people affected by the pandemic.

Overall, the activities of Vesak 2566 BE / 2022 run well. All students, teachers and staff were very cooperative and enthusiastic following this event.
