Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill hosted Model United Nations (SHBMUN) 2026 on September 5, 2026, at the SHB 4 Campus. Jointly organized by the Senior High School Student Council (OSIS) and the World View Society (WVSOC), this one-day conference simulation was designed to engage students in international diplomacy, critical thinking, public speaking, and strategic negotiation. Open to students from Grades 7 through 12 across both the Modernhill and Modernland campuses, as well as alumni, the conference accommodated 48 participants to ensure an interactive and collaborative learning environment.
Centered on the theme “Protecting Our Oceans, Preserving Our Future: Global Cooperation for Marine Sustainability,” the conference featured the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) committee. Delegates took on the role of diplomats representing various nations to address critical environmental issues, choosing between two key topics: combating marine plastic pollution through sustainable waste management, or strengthening the conservation of marine biodiversity in vulnerable ocean ecosystems. Unlike conventional MUN simulations with fixed agendas, SHBMUN 2026 implemented an agenda-setting procedure where delegates debated the urgency of each topic before voting on which one to address, further fostering active participation and strategic diplomacy.
Under the leadership of the organizing team—including Secretary General Gabrielle Dominique Gigir, Deputy Secretary General and Head Chair Edward Nathaniel Kurniawan, and Event Organizer Althan Satria—the program featured a comprehensive schedule of activities. Beyond committee sessions, formal debates, and chair feedback, the event included opening and closing ceremonies, a keynote speech from alumna Gisela Bea Athalia Adyu, interactive icebreakers, and an awards ceremony. The conference atmosphere was complemented by a merchandise booth and a World View Society educational booth.
The World View Society (WVS), a youth non-governmental organization co-founded by high school students Gabrielle and Edward, aims to highlight interdisciplinary learning and raise awareness on key issues such as environmental conservation, mental health, and media literacy. During the event, their dedicated booth offered educational materials and creative items, including WVS Mail zines, bookmarks, and “ADVO-CATS” mental health packs and themed merchandise. Through the combined efforts of formal diplomatic debate and youth-led educational initiatives, SHBMUN 2026 sought to empower the next generation to become responsible, globally aware leaders.
The SHBMUN 2026 conference concluded with the recognition of several outstanding delegates:
